Salema
The local coastal village of Salema is only a 5-minute drive from the resort entrance. Once a local fishing village, it’s now the perfect seaside location. Set in a bay with golden beaches its location means it does not suffer the high seas and breaking waves so favoured by the surfers further down the coast.
Salema is also a great place for eating. It’s fast becoming the go to place for those in the “know” for a special meal to complete a perfect evening out. There’s a wide choice of restaurants from the traditional through to gourmet. The great restaurants are not always easy to find, some of the best are hidden in the back streets and have to be booked well in advance to eat at the popular times; but they are worth the effort.
If you don’t want to drive the very short journey a taxi transfer can be organised through the resort reception for a very reasonable cost.
Lagos
The bustling town of Lagos is a 15-minute car journey away. Enjoy a walk round the marina; this is one of the first ports of call for transatlantic sailors on their way over from the Caribbean and the USA.
For early risers, plan a visit to the indoor market to purchase fish straight off the boat to take back to the villa to cook on the BBQ.
The large and lively old town with its quaint streets and pavement cafe’s bounded by the old city walls will occupy you for as long as you want, and still leave plenty to come back for next year.
Cape St Vincent
No trip to the Algarve is complete without a trip to Cape St Vincent and in the car its less than 30 minutes from MyVilla6.
This is the most South Western point in Europe and it sits majestically on 75m high sea cliffs looking towards the route Henry the Navigator set out on, on his journey to discover the new world.
Nowadays depending on the conditions, you may witness the surfers riding the high rollers on some of the highest surf in the world and why not take a picnic and watch the sunset over the western horizon.
There is also the spectacle of the extreme fisherman hanging onto the rockface to lower their lines into the sea 75m below.
